One thing that life has taught me over and over again, is that it will throw you curveballs. So much has happened the past week, and I am so excited to dive into it. These dogs are such a joy to have in my life, and I am so lucky that this is my world. Anyway, let’s get into it.
Calida’s Big News
If you follow us on social media, you know we have been looking for a Partner Home for Calida for a little while. You also may have noticed the bond the two of us have. I really like Calida, she is going to be an amazing addition to the program and it baffles me how similar she is to Adi. These dogs have taught me so much about the breed, about dog behavior, and even about myself. I will never stop being fascinated with this world.
Anyway, the big news. Calida has found herself a Partner Home and we could not be more excited for her. I really did want to keep her and raise her up, and one day I will get that experience. But the reality is that having 2 dogs under a year old and still training is extremely difficult. Add my 30 hour job on top of it and it was beginning to become unfair to all the dogs. Belle needs my attention, and she’s the one staying in our household for sure. Calida has the option of a Partner Home. So we kept looking for the right home, and in the meantime have kept up with her training and giving positive experiences.
By the time this post goes live, she will be settling in her new home, and hopefully things are going well. We will get to see her again, and the family has already been great at communicating. I am very excited about this opportunity.
Plans going Forward
While a Partner Home is not for everyone, we could not be more grateful to the families who give it a shot, or thrive with this sort of thing. We understand a lot of sacrifices are made, timing with breeding, transporting, care, and a lot more. You are in the thick of it with us, and we appreciate you for it.
A Partner Home allows our program to grow without sacrificing the health and well being of the dogs in the program. Calida will get the one on one attention she deserves and will live a happy and fulfilled life. And I can focus on the dogs currently in our household, Adeline and Blue Belle.
This also means I can comfortably and confidently look for our next male. It has been a weight on my shoulders lately and in just the last week, Alex and I came to the agreement that we were going to wait till Calida was a year old before getting a male. Which meant we would have to outsource for her first litter, and there are not a lot of options around here at the moment. That may change in the next 2 years still, but there are no guarantees. Again, with there being 2 dogs under one, it was difficult. We are almost to Belle’s first birthday, and she is so close to being fully trained to the point where I just need to worry about maintenance. My goal is to have her there and ready before bringing in a new puppy again.
Conclusion
I’m sorry the update is pretty short today. We are very excited for Calida, and look forward to what the future brings. We don’t have a specific pup we are looking at right now, but I have my eye on a few litters with a few potentials.
